Ep. # 320 - ‘5 Reasons Your Mediumship Practice Readings Go Wrong’

This week on Medium in the Middle, we are talking about five reasons your mediumship practice readings can go wrong, and why having one difficult reading does not mean you are suddenly losing your mediumship abilities.

This episode was inspired by a conversation I had with one of my mentees, who had recently completed six mediumship practice readings. Five of them went really well, and one felt like a complete disaster. So, what happened? How can you have five great readings and then suddenly have one that feels like nothing is working?

The truth is, there are so many factors that can influence a mediumship reading, and not all of them have to do with the medium!

In this episode, I am breaking down five common reasons your practice readings might not go as planned, including the sitter's energy, their expectations, whether they actually want to receive a reading, and how much pressure they might be putting on you without even realizing it.

We also talk about why practice readings are very different from professional readings, and why it is so important to prepare your sitter before you begin. When someone agrees to sit for a practice reading, they are there to help you learn, not to test you! I share some of the things I recommend explaining to your sitter beforehand, including how to provide helpful feedback, why taking notes matters, and how to create an environment where everyone feels comfortable participating.

I also share an example from John Edward about what can happen when a sitter is so focused on hearing from one specific loved one that they overlook information coming through from someone else.

And finally, we are talking about something that does not get discussed enough in mediumship development: being a sitter is not always easy either! Sometimes the information comes through in pieces, and the sitter has to figure out how those pieces fit together. As developing mediums, we want to make that process easier for them, not harder.

If you are currently developing your mediumship abilities and have ever walked away from a practice reading wondering what went wrong, this episode is for you. One challenging reading does not cancel out all the amazing readings you have already done, and learning how to navigate these situations is an important part of your development.

So pay attention. It’s rarely random.
